December 1, 2023 | Elder Update

Dear Harvest Family,

After we met earlier this week, the Elders of Harvest Bible Chapel would like to share some updates with our church family.

The Chicago Partnership
The highlight of our evening was the time that we were able to spend with guest, Pastor Derrick Puckett. Derrick is the Senior Pastor of Renewal Church in Chicago and the President of The Chicago Partnership.  The Chicago Partnership is a church planting and leadership development organization seeking to “make Jesus visible in every neighborhood in Chicago.”  The elders and leaders of HBC were given a ministry update from Derrick and then had time for discussion and questions. We were very blessed that Pastor Derrick took the time to meet with us and it is very clear that God is at work through The Chicago Partnership.

As many of you know, Harvest Bible Chapel (HBC) gave a financial gift of support to this ministry in the spring of 2022. It was very encouraging for us to hear Derrick describe how God has used that gift to further His Kingdom through The Chicago Partnership.  Among other things, Derrick shared these two examples of how our gift was used.

First of all, their leadership training cohort which was able to accommodate 10 individuals is now able to train 65 future church planters.

Secondly, The Chicago Partnership moved a key staff member into a full-time position because of our gift.  We are so thankful for how generous the people of HBC are and this is a great testimony of how the Lord can multiply our tithes, gifts, and offerings to further His work. We invite you to join us in praying for Pastor Derrick and his team and the work they do for Jesus. Pray for us also as we as a church consider how we can continue to come alongside this ministry in the days ahead.

New Elder and New Elder Chairman
We had a very special night as far as the composition of the Elder Board is concerned. First of all, we welcomed and prayed over Rodd Johnson as he was voted in as the newest member of the board. We are excited to see what God has for Rodd as he serves our church.

Secondly, we as a board voted for and prayed over Kevin Boldog as he now serves as the Chairman of our Elder Board. Kevin is replacing Brian Laird as Elder Board Chairman after he has served in that role since 2019. Please pray for Kevin as he takes this new role.

Brian, who will roll off the elder board altogether in January, has served our church in a mighty way.  Brian stepped in as Chairman of the Board when our church was in a very hard situation and served faithfully for many years through many difficult circumstances. The Elder Board during this time, under Brian’s leadership, had to make many difficult decisions and carry a very heavy load of responsibility while caring for the people of HBC.  However, through it all, Brian and the elders have seen God show Himself to be faithful again and again. Brian and the elders have many great stories of seeing God’s provision. Those of you who know Brian, please thank him and his family for his time of service as our Elder Board Chairman.

Staff Christmas Gift Cards
Christmas is such a season of giving. We as Elders want to allow you to be a blessing and encouragement to the staff of Harvest Bible Chapel and Harvest Christian Academy.

You’re invited to purchase gift cards that will be used as Christmas gifts for the church and school staff and given to them at their Christmas all-staff on Thursday, December 21. Here are the details.

  • Consider getting a gift card for $50 or partnering with another person or family and buying 2 $25 gift cards; be creative! You can get 2 $50 gift cards, but not a $100 gift card. The goal is to give $50 worth of gift cards to each staff member.
  • Gift cards are not to be designated to a specific staff person or campus
  • Gift cards are not a charitable donation, as they are not going to the church or school, but to an individual
  • Gift cards can be received in the lobby of each campus on the weekends of December 2-3 and December 9-10 at every campus before and after every weekend gathering.
  • Gift cards can be for anything you think would bless a staff person: restaurants, stores, entertainment, gasoline, etc.

If you have questions, feel free to reach out to an elder. Thanks for whatever you can do to be a blessing to the staff.

Farewell 2023
Finally, the November meeting was our last scheduled elder meeting for the year 2023. We are astounded by how God has moved in our church this year. We are also so very grateful for the growth seen in unity and togetherness among the leaders and elders of HBC. While there remain many heavy and important things that are before us on a monthly basis, our elder meetings are now rich with discussions of theology and shepherding in a way that we didn’t think possible in the recent past. God is so good. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and can’t wait to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with you all in the coming weeks.

You are loved,

The Elders of Harvest Bible Chapel
