September 1, 2023 | Elder Update

Hello Harvest family,

Following our elder meeting on Wednesday, August 30, we wanted to share an update with you all.

Celebrations
The Elder Board meeting consisted of some very important celebrations this past week. First, we as a board had a chance to welcome the new North Shore Campus Pastor, Cory Anderson who officially begins today, Friday, September 1. We are very thankful for the way in which God led Cory to our church and are excited to see how he will be used. We had a chance to pray for Cory and his family as they transition to this new position and start to minister to the people of the North Shore community.

Second, we had a time to show appreciation for Diane Birkenstock, Lead, Executive Admin, as this was her last meeting with us before she retires later this month. Diane has been such a blessing to us as she has faithfully attended all of our elder meetings and served as a secretary and even more recently as a member of the Lead Team. We celebrated Diane and her husband, Eddie, and prayed for them as well as they transition to this next season of life. Those of you who know Diane and Eddie, please join us in thanking them for their faithful service to and support of Harvest Bible Chapel (HBC) over her 19 years on staff.

Compelling Theology
As has been our practice now for many meetings, we once again set aside time in our meeting for a theology discussion. We are continuing to read through the book, 40 Questions About Elders and Deacons. This past week we discussed complimentarianism vs. egalitarianism and how it relates to God’s plan for His church. We are very thankful for these times of discussion and the resulting dialogue as we continually seek to lead our church according to God’s Word.

Changes
We invite you to pray for us as we continue with new elder selection processes as the transition of the members of the HBC elder board continues. As we add new elders and some complete their service, we are always seeking to improve this process and the training that goes along with becoming an elder. We are excited to see what God has for us as a board moving forward as we continue to oversee the doctrine, direction, and discipline of this church.

Finally, be on the lookout for dates for the next round of Town Hall Meetings on every campus this fall. This is a great way to interact with the leaders of HBC and ask any questions you may have.
