GUIDELINES
Please read the following information to understand everything about leading and serving at High Five in Elgin. At the end of the content, you will find links to register. Your registration is complete when you receive a confirmation email.
VOLUNTEER DISCOUNT
The volunteer discount is based on a full day of serving unless you serve in Early Flight or FLY! and need to take home your young children. However, even parents with young children have a great time serving all day and we invite you to join us in a full-day High Five experience.
FULL DAY ELECTIVES
If your elective is both AM and PM, please serve in the same elective all day.
HALF-DAY ELECTIVES
If your elective is only AM or PM, choose another elective and join that team.
GRADES 6-12 STUDENTS
All students MUST complete all required steps to be certified to serve. If you do not complete steps by June 10, your registration will be moved to “Admin Team” and a student from the waiting list who is certified will be awarded the open position. If all your choices are full, please register for “Admin Team”. We will help you find the best place to lead at High Five. Your successful experience is our goal.
Below are nine things you want to know about being a student leader.
- All sixth graders are leaders.
- Watch the 5 Minute Student Volunteer/Leadership Video at the top of this page. If you can agree, we want you on the team.
- There are some restrictions based on age. Read descriptions to understand the age range. If you wish to be with a specific friend, it is your responsibility to register for the same team. You may express a specific wish to the team director.
- New for this year, we will be closing leadership options when they are full. This means you should register right away.
- We have not done a good job of managing outdoor elective options. So for 2022, we retired that choice and created a better way for you to ensure you are able to choose your leadership option.
- No students are required to serve with their parents.
- Every student leader must be certified. This means completing our Harvest Secure Volunteer Certification and attending the High Five Leadership Academy.
- There is a $50 fee for students entering grades 6-10. This covers your training, lunch, t-shirt, snacks, and extras. If this fee prohibits you from attending, you may request to be considered for five hours of setup work that reduces the cost to $10. This work occurs before, during or after High Five. Space is limited and available to students entering Grades 8-10. Please register for the leadership scholarship here.
- You are invited to attend every meeting. Make sure you read your email or your parent’s email so you are aware of dates and times.
New for 2022! MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS
We have found that some middle school students find it very hard to work with children ALL day long. As parents, you will need to help them decide what is best for them. For those who are younger and may have a harder time working with children all day, please choose the Middle School elective choice for the afternoon. They will have some downtime, games, snacks, social time and help the admin team with tasks. Please check the Volunteer Age Range to find where your student will be happy to serve. Camp Harvest Junior High Camp is scheduled for the same week as High Five.

T-shirt pick-up weekends are June 5, June 12, and June 19 outside the Worship Center on the west side of the campus before and after service times (9:00 AM–12:00 PM). Label camper’s shirt with the first name ONLY in a sharpie marker. Label worker shirts with Mr./Mrs./Miss and your name. All campers receive a t-shirt based on elective. Some campers receive a second shirt. You may purchase an additional High Five camper t-shirt during registration and t-shirts are available for purchase Monday, June 20 after 12 Noon at the High Five Store.
3. Where Do I Register?
You will find the registration link on our camper or volunteer web pages. (Camper registration opens Thursday, March 10, 2022, at 12 noon.)
4. How Do I Change or Cancel a Reservation?
You may request a change to your child’s registration by May 31 at no charge. After May 31, there is a $25 charge plus any additional fees if the new elective has a premium upcharge. If the elective is less, no monies are refunded. You may cancel your registration by May 31 by emailing Amanda for a full refund. After May 31, we will refund your deposit less a $25 fee.
5. Can I Pick Up My Child Early?
We apologize, but we do not allow early release or pick-up. High Five is all day. Please schedule other camps, lessons, and doctors’ appointments for a different week.
6. Do You Prorate the Week If We Leave Early?
No.
7. What is the High Five Store?
Our store opens on Monday afternoon. New items arrive every day. We sell any over-purchased stock and supplies. It’s a great place to pick up an extra High Five t-shirt, hat, or craft supplies at a great price. We take cash, checks, or cards.
8. How Do I Contact Staff During the Week?
There will be a staffed administration counter in the West Lobby, or send an email to Amanda.
9. What If My Child Loses Something or Needs to Change Their Clothes?
This is a normal occurrence at High Five. We have a lost and found table in the West Lobby. However, we strongly suggest you send your child to High Five with nothing of value. They get dirty and their clothes and shoes will never be the same. Many children need to change. We have custom-built outdoor changing tents that protect privacy, yet allow a child to change their dirty, wet clothes.
10. Where Do I Park for Check In and Check Out?
All parking is in the west parking lot, with check-in happening in the West Lobby by the last name. For 12:20 PM FLY! check out, park in the parking garage, and head towards the second floor, blue doors, Harvest Christian Academy preschool with your parking pass clearly displayed in your front windshield. For 3:45 PM check out, pick up happens by afternoon elective in the Worship Center, West Lobby, and outside the west doors. Check-out is always a little crazy and takes a few minutes for adults to check everyone’s ID for the safety of your child.
11. When Is the Final Payment Due?
The final payment is due June 1, through an automatic charge to your original form of payment. If that is not possible, please contact
12. How Do I Make a Friend Request?
There is a place to make a friend request in the camper registration form. You must register your child for the same elective at the same time (AM or PM) as their friend.
13. What Should My Child Wear?
Your child should wear their High Five t-shirt, shorts, and comfortable shoes. Everything gets dirty, stained, and worn out this week. Please do not send your child dressed in anything you love. This is camp and children play hard.
14. What Are Your Covid Protocols?
Please refer to our main page at HarvestBibleChapel.org/HighFive to read about our “Health and Cleanliness” policies.
15. What is Served in the Camper Lunch?
If you choose to purchase a lunch for $30 in your camper registration, we provide pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, pasta, lunch meat sandwiches, fruit, vegetables, a sweet treat, and any combination depending on the day. We make sure every child has had enough to eat so they can enjoy their afternoon elective.
